Speaker, Ondo State Youths Parliament, Mr. Smith Ikumopayi has charged youths on the need to join political platforms in order to attain political leadership in the country.
He said that they should avoid being used only for political mobilisation and form groups or fora where their voices will be heard.
lkumopayi, who stated this during a radio programme on ORANGE FM , Akure, the State capital said there was need for youths to join political platform and form fora to express their ideas if they should be voted for in 2023.
He said for youths to take over power from old leaders, said that they must have ideology with effort to convince electorate on leadership and the need to have the young generation in position of power.
According to him ” they must also justify the reason for the need to be entrusted with power or elected.
” The Not Too Young To Run Law also gives youths more voice and opportunity to contest for political posts. They must look towards that law and take advantage of it to attain positions of political leadership,”
The Speaker, who noted that youths are the major players in elections advised them to seal agreement on the political positions to occupy before giving their supports to any candidate or political parties in any election to avoid being used and dumped.
He added that their numerical strength has not been felt and urged them to identify their strength more and display it in positive form.
He expressed optimism that more youths would contest in 2023 for various positions to achieve their dreams in bringing positive changes in the country.
He urged members of the National and State Assemblies not to see youths who are just coming into the system as their rivals but as one to complement their efforts politically for the nation building.
