AAUA begins Mass Comm in Akure

The Adekunle Ajasin University’s degree programme in Mass Communication has taken off in the institution’s study center in Akure.

The programme which has been running and producing graduates at the main campus of the institution in Akungba-Akoko now operates at two centers (Akure and Akungba-Akoko).

This was disclosed by the Head of the Department, Dr. Raphael Olugbenga Abimbola during interaction with some members and leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ondo State Council at the NUJ Press Centre, Alagbaka in Akure.

Abimbola disclosed that the first set of students for the Akure study center has been admitted while the offer is still open for intending students.

He, therefore, solicited the cooperation of the NUJ in making the programme a huge success in Akure as it is meant to cater for the needs of both serving and intending media professionals and the general public.

Responding, the Chairman of NUJ in Ondo State, Prince Leke Adegbite, said the programme would benefit  his members who are yet to obtain academic qualifications in Mass Communication as well as intending Journalists.

Adegbite noted that the competence of the Mass Communication Department of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko is not in doubt giving the caliber of the faculty members led by Dr. Abimbola who is a thorough bred journalist.

The Chairman who therefore pledged the support of the union towards the programme and called on his members and the general public to enroll accordingly, urged the University management to also intensify efforts at commencing Postgraduate Academic Programmes in Mass Communication (PGD, Masters & PhD).
