Sunshine Queens Football Club, yesterday thrashed Beautiful Tours 6-0 in a 2021 women’s AITEO cup round one decided at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja.
Seun Fakunle gave the Queens the lead two minutes into the start of the game, before Effiong Ekeng doubled the lead in the 21 and 24 minutes.
Ayuba Aleri later increased the lead with solo efforts to make it 4-0 , eleven minuth into the first half.
Sunshine Queens, Temitayo Onilude effected two changes in the second half with Seun Fakunle and Alani out for Esther Odeigbe. and Owoseni Bukola.
While Foluke Opeyori and Rose Ekong made way for Bright Nnaji and Adeola Adeniran in 69th minute.
Nkor Blessing added two goals to the Sunshine Queens lead to make it 6-0.
What could have been a consolation goal for the Beautiful Tours was ruled offside in the 31minuth.
The team’s coach, Temitayo Onilude commended her players for playing to instructions.
According to her, “I’m happy for the victory in my first outing with the team, the next thing for us is to back to the drawing board and strategise ahead of our next match.
“We are a team in the making, we are not yet there, despite the victory we are still going back to the drawing board to make some amendments where it’s needed as discovered during the game.
“Honestly, I commend the girls for their efforts, but we are not yet there, we will be improving match by match,” she said.
