A 41-year-old clearing agent, Mayokun Akindipe, has been dragged before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for fraudulently converting the sum of N2,700,000 to his own personal use from one Babatunde Bankole.
The police brought Akindipe before the court on Thursday for also allegedly obtaining the sum of N480,000 under false pretence to clear a vehicle SACON JEEP 2007 model for the complaint in which he failed to do so.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The defendant was said to have committed the offence between the month of January 6 and January 30 2020, at about 2pm at yaba in Ondo, contrary to and punishable under section 419 and 390(9)(8)(B) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The prosecutor, Akao Moremi , who told the court that he would be calling three witnesses to testify in the case, applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
Lawyer for the defendant, Israel Ikuemonisan, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal terms.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr Damilola Sekoni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1,500,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
Sekoni said the sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction of the court the Sureties shall depose to an affidavit of means, both sureties shall be gainfully employed and attach evidence of same to the bail bonds
He added that sureties shall also attach evidence of ownership of properties worth the bail bound and same shall be in original. Both sureties being gainfully employed must as well be responsible citizens paying tax to the government.
Sekoni adjourned the case till October 15, 2020 for hearing
