As Ondo state rounds off  its free Rabies vaccination today, stakeholders in health related matters have been urged to collaborate for more effective network to eradicate the disease by year 2030.

Director of Disease and Control in Ondo state, Dr. Steven Fagbemi stated this in an interview with The Hope in Akure.

His words: ” To eradicate Rabies, the most important thing is to work together which is critical.

” Every case seen, ideas should be shared and mobilise our resources together which is the principle of one health, all of us must work together”, he said he said.

He observed that different organisations are working differently rather than together for positive imparts of their struggle.

“We also need to invest more in both collaborative research and invest also in human capacity, we need to invest in infrastructure and inject more veterinarians into the sector.

He noted the importance for institutionalisation, like training the veterinary doctors on human and animal health, for more collaboration from the school as well as teaching on disease notification and reporting of such, saying most of them were not taught at the medical school for easy identification of the diseases that may eventually cause epidemic and how to go about it.

” The idea of working together should show a seed.

Fagbemi called for the establishment of desk officers in the three ministry to coordinate and relate with one other respectfully.
