The Federal and Ondo State governments have been urged to expedite action to complete various ongoing road construction projects now that the dry season is around.
Some community leaders in Akoko area of Ondo State made this call in a chat with newsmen at a function in Ikare Akoko.
According to them, an appreciable progress is always made during the dry season when there is no rainfall to disturb construction works and as such efforts should be made to mobilise contractors handling these road projects to complete them.
A community leader from Akunu in Akoko Northeast Local Government Area, Chief Ladi Bello, noted that in the past, contractors excuses were usually about rainfall and lack of financial mobilisation as reasons for the delay in the completion of road projects.
Chief Bello appealed to government to always give money to contractors as and when due, for them to do a good job and also not to abandon such.
According to him, it is a common sight to see abandoned road projects scattered all over the place in Nigeria for the excuse of not being mobilised.
The community leader however listed roads that are awaito completion in Akoko to include Ikaram to Akunu, Afin-Okeagbe -Eshe to Ogbagi road, Oba Akoko to Ikun Akoko and Ikare Akoko township road dualization project.
In the same vein, Alhaji Saliu Aro, another community leader in Akoko said the period between November and March is good for road construction since there is no or less period around the time.
He appealed to the government to ensure the ongoing projects are completed or taken to an appreciable level before the rains come again.
