Driver remanded for causing death of Immigration officer

Osun State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo over the weekend remanded a 32-year-old commercial driver, Jemilu Lawal, in prison custody for allegedly causing the death of an Immigration officer, Peter Ojo, in Gbongan.
The defendant was said to be driving along Ife-Ibadan Expressway when the accident which led to the death of the immigration officer, occurred.
Lawal, who was arraigned on eight counts bordering on dangerous driving, was also accused of driving without a driving licence and with expired vehicle documents.
The police prosecutor, Jacob Akintunde, said the incident occurred on February 22, 2021.
The offences “contravene Sections 18 of Cap 146 Vol.II Laws of Osun of Nigeria 2002 and section 18, RTA Cap 548 laws of Nigeria. 2002.”
Lawal pleaded not guilty.
The presiding magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara, ruled that the defendant be remanded in Ilesa Custodial Centre and adjourned the case till March 3, 2021.
