The Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Kola Oluwole and his deputy Sina Animasaun, have been impeached.

Oluwawole and Animasaun are members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Oluwawole, a staunch loyalist of the out-going Governor Ayo Fayose, was removed at about 12: 30 pm yesterday at a  behind closed doors meeting.

The lawmakers immediatly elected the former Deputy Leader, Adeniran Alagbada as new Speaker  while the Minority Leader, Gboyega Aribisogan, was elected as new House Leader of Business.

Former Deputy Speaker, Segun Adewumi, was returned as deputy speaker by the lawmakers, while Sunday Akinniyi was elected Minority Leader.

Rt. Hon. Segun Adewumi,  was removed by Fayose’s loyalists earlier in the year.

The new principal officers were sworn in immediately after being elected.

Alagbada defected from Peoples Democratic Party to All Progressive Congress (APC) in June this year,  alongside his political mentor, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.

The minority APC lawmakers were joined by their PDP counterparts who will soon defect to the APC.

The change in leadership was believed to have been effected in anticipation of the change of government.
