Engage executive positively, Osun lawmakers urged

The new lawmakers of the Osun State House of Assembly have been urged to continue the tradition of positive engagement with the executive arm of government.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Gboyega Famoodun, who gave the charge in Osogbo urged the lawmakers to brace up for hardwork, because the challenges ahead will stretch them.

He noted that the success achieved in the last eight years was significantly due to the pragmatic and harmonious working relationship between Former Governor Rauf Aregbesola and the previous House of Assembly.”

He reminded members of the assembly that they have the constitutional duties of oversight and lawmaking both of which require creative and mature interaction with various aspects of the society as well as executive.

Famoodun drew the attention of the lawmakers to the security challenges facing the country and reminded them that the state was not exempted.

Meanwhile, the immediate past Speaker of the assembly, Dr Najeem Salaam has said that the fifth and sixth sessions of the assembly passed 66 bills between June 2011 and May 2019.

He said the assembly, under his leadership, supported the administration of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola and the incumbent governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, because they followed the manifestoes of the ruling party.
