As Iju Community celebrates Iju Day 2023 this Saturday, the Iju Progressive Union (IPU) has reeled out activities for farmers and community members.
The ceremony will be graced by the State Governor, Arakinrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Chief Host, Senator Tayo Alasoadura, State Commissioner for Youths and Sport , Dele Ologun and other dignitaries and friends of the community.
The IPU National President, Mr Akin Oluwalade disclosed this at a press conference held at the Iju Utility Centre.
Free health programme, sales of genuine agrochemicals to farmers at subsidized rates, cultural displays and paying of homage to Okiti-in-Council, launching of N250,000,000 for development projects and sports competitions among seven quarters of the town are activities lined up for the day.
Mr Oluwalade who noted that the market is saturated with fake agrochemicals, stated that the union has made efforts to supply authentic agrochemicals for farmers in Iju to commemorate the day and boost farm produce.
He stressed that the union is an umbrella body of all Iju sons and daughters both at home and in the diaspora and will always put the community at the forefront.
On behalf of the Oba, the IPU president thanked the state governor for elevating Oba Amos Adelakun Farukanmi to a prestigious Grade A status.
He emphasised that part of the importance of celebrating the day is to promote self-help and cultural heritage and harness the talents of the youths who can represent the state at the national level and beyond.
He, however, urged the government to continue to consider iju community in the state’s dividends, stressing that the community will continue to appreciate the gesture and wish the governor well in his endeavour.
The first woman of the Iju community, High Chief Arinola Enikanoselu, IPU officials and media personalities were also present at the press conference.
