Three suspected kidnappers have been apprehended by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly abducting a staff member of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Mr. Omoniyi Eleyinmi.
Eleyinmi was reportedly seized by gunmen at his residence along the Akungba–Supare Akoko Road last Sunday. He regained his freedom yesterday after an undisclosed ransom was paid to secure his release.
However, luck ran out on the suspects as they were arrested in a forest around Ago Paanu, a village situated between Oba Akoko and Owo, while allegedly sharing the ransom money.
A viral video of the arrest showed the suspects in possession of cash believed to be the ransom collected for the victim’s release.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olusola Ayanlade, said:
“I can confirm to you that our operatives arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the kidnapping of an AAUA lecturer.
“The suspects are currently undergoing profiling and interrogation. Meanwhile, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has directed that the suspects and all exhibits recovered be transferred to the anti-kidnapping squad for discreet and thorough investigation.
“Further details will be communicated to you. Thanks for your usual cooperation,” he added.
