There was palpable tension in Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State on Tuesday following the death of a seven-year-old girl who was strangled to death by a popular lunatic in the town.
The incident which has thrown the town into mourning occurred at the late hour of Monday in Dalema area of Adehun, Ado-Ekiti.
It was gathered that the lifeless body of the girl was found in a building where she was said to have been killed by the lunatic who also resides in the area.
Reports had it that the girl was sent on an errand by her mother around 8:30pm on the fateful day to a neighbouring house, but did not return home.
The mother, who did not see her daughter after waiting intermittently raised the alarm and lodged complaint at the Ekiti State Police Command headquarters, Ado-Ekiti.
The case was later reported at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) which prompted the officers of the command to besiege the community in search for the girl.
All efforts made by the family and other neighbors to locate the whereabouts of the later paved way as her lifeless body was later discovered in the building.
The discovery of the lifeless body of thevictim was said to have generated many reactions, as youths in the area trooped out to protest gruesome murder of the girl.
The protest later led to the destructions of property, including the house of the relatives of the lunatic.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, confirmed the development and said two persons including the aged mother of the lunatic have been invited for interrogation.
Abutu explained that investigation has begun on the matter, while normalcy has also been restored to the area.
