For allegedly stealing a dog, a 21-year-old man, Sunday Edem has been arraigned before an Odigbo Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State.
The police brought Edem before the court presided over by Mr T.J Ajayi, on one-count charge of stealing.
The Hope Metro gathered that the accused person allegedly stole the live dog valued at N15,000 at about 6:00am on December 4, this year.
He was said to have stolen the dog belonging to one Paschal Paul at Olu-Constain via Ore magisterial district.
The prosecution stated that he committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge .
The Police prosecutor, Sgt. Muyideen Yekini, who informed the court that the complainant was no longer interested in the case said he requested that the matter be withdrawn because of intervention by relatives.
The magistrate, Mr Ajayi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He, however, held, “I will not withdraw the case today despite the emotional claim by the complainant, because there is high rate of crime in the society and all hands must be on deck to find solutions to it.
“If I release him (Sunday Edem) now, he will not know the gravity of the offence and may still do same. You can become successful through hard work and not by stealing or any negative means,”he advised.
He adjourned the case till December 20, 2018.
