Man docked over theft threat to life

A 28-year-old man, Umaru Muhammed has been arraigned before an Ondo Magistrates’ court for alleged stealing and intent to kill one Oluwole Oladipupo, with matchet.
Muhammed was arraigned before the court on Monday on five count charge bothering on stealing, threat to life and malicious damage.
He was alleged alongside one other still at large of unlawfully entry into the family land of the Fasawe’s family at about 4:00pm, without their consent and with the intention of stealing on November 30, 2018.
He was also alleged to have unlawfully stolen pipes with nets used for fencing Fasawe’s family land.
Muhammed was further alleged to have unlawfully and maliciously damaged the pipes and fence wire valued at N4,500,000, being the property of Fasawe family at Panrobber Camp, Oke-Igbo, in Oke-Igbo Magisterial District of Ondo state.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Benard Olagbayi, said the offence contravened sections 516(a), 81, 86(i), 451(i) A and B, 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the five count charge.
Olagbayi, therefore applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Anthony Olagundoye, prayed the court to admit his client to bail in most liberal terms.
In her ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs Bolatito Ajibade granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5million with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She said that one of the sureties must be a house owner and resident within the jurisdiction, while residence should be confirmed by the court’s orderly and report back to court.
The case was adjourned till January 22, 2019 for trial.
