A 22-year-old mechanic, David Ogbona , has been dragged before an Akure Magistrates’ Court, for injuring the eye of a man which has resulted into blindness.
The accused person allegedly committed the offence on February 26, 2022 at about 6:30 pm at Araromi Street, Akure in the Akure Magisterial District.
The police prosecutor, Obadasa Ajiboye, told the court that the defendant beat one Ifeanyi Ebeh with fist blow all over his body and used stone to inflict severe injury on his left eye which had made him blind.
According to the victim’s statement to the police, he explained, ” I was in my shop at Isolo market, when one man named David Ogbona entered and started smoking Indian hemp.
“I told Ogbonna not to smoke in my shop, but he challenged me that was it because he was smoking that I wanted to chase him out?
“Suddenly, he started beating me. So, he picked a stone and threw it at my left eye. And I sustained injury in my eyes. Now, I can’t see anything with the eyes.”
The prosecutor, Ajiboye said the offence contravene Sections 252 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge, while his lawyer, Mr Kehinde Osadugba, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term.
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till April 7, 2022 for mention.
