Chairman of Nigeria Union Teachers in Ondo State, Comrade Victor Amoko has said that there is no unqualified teachers in the state’s public primary and secondary schools.
Amoko who stated this while speaking with The Hope yesterday noted that all the teachers in the public primary and secondary schools in the state have their Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria’s licence.
“There is no way you can teach in either public primary or secondary school without prerequisite knowledge because our activities are being moderated by TRCN and we all have our licences.
“I can not say much about private schools because they are not in my jurisdiction. You know that some people set up private schools and do not have enough fund. Most of them employ secondary school leavers waiting for admission to teach in schools like this”, he said.
Amoko who stressed that there are no unqualified teachers in the state public primary and secondary schools added that the newly recruited teachers are professionals.
“When government was to recruit the new teachers, some people suggested that they should be made casual but the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu said it is not possible that education standard in Ondo state is known to be high.
“What will casual teachers produce but casual pupils and students. So as far as Ondo state public primary and secondary schools are concerned, there is no teacher without prerequisite knowledge of teaching “, he said.
