Nomination form out: Race for Olowo’s stool begins

By Jimoh Ahmed

The coast is now clear for all qualified and interested princes of the Elewokun dynasty to contest for the Olowo of Owo stool.

This clarification was made in Owo yesterday by the Ojomo Oluda of Ijebu-Owo, Oba Kofoworola Oladoyinbo at a media parley.

Oba Oladoyinbo who is the president of the Senior Omolowos pledged that the process of selecting the new Olowo will be transparent and in tandem with the Owo culture and tradition.

He dismissed insinuation that the process of picking the new Olowo will be compromised by politics, insisting that only experienced and incorruptible members of the royal family are involved.

Oba Oladoyinbo hinted that only qualified sons of the Elewuokun dynasty can obtain the form for the contest at a cost of N25,000.00.

He said the rock bottom price to obtain nomination form was deliberate to give all contestants a level playing ground and enjoined all sons and daughters to help the Omolowos make the process a peaceful and hitch free one.

Answering a reporter’s question, the Oba said the senior Omolowos are awaiting a formal approval from the state government to go ahead with the nomination process.

The Senior Omolowos are responsible for the selection of a new Olowo after which they will present same to the kingmakers who will ratify whosoever emerges for installation.

There are 23 Senior Omolowos in Owo but presently only 17 are available for the selection exercise while six positions remained vacant since they have not been filled.

Meanwhile, two more contestants have reportedly joined the contestants for the exalted throne of Olowo of Owo bringing the number of throne seekers to flour.

Informed sources gave the name of the new entrants as a pastor of the RCCG, Pastor Sunday Aragun and Justice Suyi Olateru-Olagbegi, a retired High Court Judge in Lagos State.
