…Appoints Dr. Oyelude as University Librarian

The Vice-Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, has disclosed that 31 graduates of the institution bagged First Class honours in the 2023/2024 academic session.
He stated this while addressing journalists at the university’s conference room ahead of its third convocation ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
The VC revealed that out of a total of 995 graduates set to receive their degree certificates, 367 obtained Second Class Upper Division, 495 made Second Class Lower, while 102 graduated with Third Class.
On behalf of the Governing Council and management of the institution, he commended the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for restoring electricity to the southern part of the state after 15 years of blackout.
Prof. Ologunorisa noted that since power was restored to the region, the university has recorded significant improvements in academic rankings.
However, he highlighted some lingering challenges facing the institution, particularly abandoned projects within the university.
He called on the Ondo State Government, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) to assist in completing the projects.
He also urged the governor to ensure adequate budgetary allocation for all state-owned universities.
Speaking on his achievements as Vice-Chancellor over the past three years, Prof. Ologunorisa stated that the university has transitioned from a teaching institution to a research-based university, significantly boosting its scholarly reputation.
“When I assumed office three years ago, the university had only three schools. Today, we have expanded to seven. By the end of this year, we expect to commence the Doctor of Pharmacy programme and establish a School of Medical Sciences because we have the necessary resources. We have also signed an MoU with the Teaching Hospital in Ondo to assist us in this regard,” he said.
He emphasised that the southern part of the state has lagged behind in medical education, urging the state government to upgrade either Okitipupa or Igbokoda General Hospital into a teaching hospital to support the university’s proposed College of Medicine.
On infrastructure, Prof. Ologunorisa expressed satisfaction with the university’s utilisation of TETFund projects, stating that there were no abandoned TETFund projects in the institution as funds were judiciously utilised.
He also announced plans to commence the School of Maritime Transport and Logistics by September 2025, where students will be trained in shipping and port management.
Regarding security, the Vice-Chancellor assured that the university remains peaceful, maintaining a strong relationship with security agencies, including the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force.
He concluded by stating that OAUSTECH has significantly contributed to the economic growth of the region and remains committed to academic excellence and development.
Meanwhile, the Governing Council of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, has approved the appointment of Dr. Adetoun Adebisi Oyelude, FNLA, CLN, as the new University Librarian.
Dr. Oyelude, a distinguished librarian with vast experience in library management, information technology, and academic research support, assumes office following a rigorous selection process. Until her appointment, she served as Deputy Librarian at the University of Ibadan.
A native of Ibadan, Oyo State, Dr. Oyelude holds a first degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and furthered her studies at the University of Ibadan, where she obtained both her Master’s and PhD degrees. Her career at the University of Ibadan saw her playing pivotal roles in library administration, research facilitation, and innovative library services.
Speaking on the appointment, the Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, described Dr. Oyelude as a seasoned professional whose expertise will significantly enhance the university’s library system.
“We are pleased to have Dr. Oyelude join us. Her wealth of experience will be instrumental in transforming our library into a centre of excellence for learning and research,” the VC stated.
In her reaction, Dr. Oyelude expressed gratitude to the Governing Council and the university management for the opportunity, assuring that she would work diligently to reposition the university’s library for greater academic impact.
Her appointment is expected to drive improvements in research output, student learning, and overall academic performance at OAUSTECH.
