The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has conducted an operational assessment of security activities along the Lagos–Ore–Benin Expressway as part of efforts to enhance safety and traffic flow ahead of the festive season.
The on-the-spot assessment, carried out in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, was aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness and ensuring a secure environment for commuters and residents during the yuletide.
During the visit, CP Lawal commended the collaborative efforts between the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), noting that the strategic deployment of FRSC personnel had significantly improved traffic management along the busy corridor.
He also praised the Nigeria Customs Service for its support, particularly in the removal of road barriers to ensure the free flow of traffic.
Addressing members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ondo State Chapter, the commissioner urged them to remain law-abiding, patient and considerate of other road users.
He cautioned against reckless driving and warned of the dangers associated with driving under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances.
CP Lawal also interacted with police officers deployed along the expressway, charging them to carry out their duties with professionalism, diligence and commitment.
He directed the Area Commander to deploy additional personnel, clear all obstructions along the route, and intensify supervision of officers on duty. Divisional Police Officers within metropolitan areas were similarly instructed to remove traffic obstructions, sustain regular patrols, and maintain visible policing along the corridor.
The Police Command expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for his leadership and continued support, particularly through reforms and technological initiatives aimed at promoting effective, responsive and intelligence-driven policing nationwide.
Assuring members of the public, CP Lawal stated that comprehensive security measures had been put in place along the expressway.
He emphasised that Area Commanders, Tactical Team Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and their personnel had been fully deployed for both covert and overt operations to guarantee the safety and security of road users throughout the festive period.
