Ondo LG polls: Substitution of candidates  begin.

Substitution of candidates for the positions of chairmanship and councilorship by political parties ahead of the scheduled April 18 local government elections to be conducted by the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC, will commence today, The Hope  has learnt.

This came on the heel of the just concluded screening of candidates submitted by 19 political parties to the commission for the positions of chairman and councillor.

According to The Hope investigation, the substitution will be followed by the publication of personal particulars (CF001) of substituted candidates for chairmanship and councilorship elections if any on Tuesday, March  3.

The Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Yomi Dinakin who stated this  in an interview with The Hope said the commission has screened all the candidates on the list submitted by political parties that have indicated interest to participate in the election.

It would be recalled that the screening of all the 27 chairmanship candidates and their vice from nine political parties that indicated interest were done at the headquarters of the commission, while that of councilorship was done at the area offices of the commission across the 18 local government areas in the state.

He explained that the political parties may substitute within the specified period in accordance with the timetable.

The commission boss urged all the screened candidates to be consistent with regulation and produce all that are required.

He assured that the commission would continue to work according to the electoral timetable to conduct free and fair election.
