By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

The Osun State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, has commenced training for 1,000 newly recruited personnel as part of efforts to bolster security across the state.

The training, which kicked off on Monday at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ede, is a rigorous 21-day exercise aimed at equipping the recruits with the necessary skills to tackle security challenges effectively.

The programme comprises both theoretical and practical sessions, covering various aspects of security operations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun, Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, underscored the significance of discipline in the corps, warning that any act of indiscipline would not be tolerated.

He urged the trainees to uphold ethical standards throughout the training and in their subsequent service to the state. Omoyele also lauded Governor Ademola Adeleke for approving the recruitment, noting that it would enhance security and create employment opportunities for the youth.

Similarly, Chairman of the Osun Amotekun Board, AIG Wale Abbas (retd.), commended the governor’s commitment to securing lives and property, stressing that the initiative would contribute significantly to crime prevention.

He encouraged the recruits to demonstrate resilience and dedication, assuring them of professional training under seasoned security experts.

The training is being led by former Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Fimihan Adeoye (retd.), alongside experienced instructors drawn from the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, Peace Corps, and other paramilitary agencies.

According to Adeoye, the training will place strong emphasis on community policing, reinforcing Amotekun’s role as a grassroots security outfit.
