Osun APC alleges killing of campaign DG’s nephew, demands justice

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that the nephew of its governorship campaign Director-General, Hon. Wole Oke, was killed on Wednesday night in Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government area, barely 48 hours before Saturday’s governorship election.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that Dele Ayegbo was shot dead by suspected members of the Accord Party.

According to the party, the incident occurred at a road junction near Ayegbo’s residence in the Idofin area of Esa-Oke, where gunmen allegedly opened fire on him and other APC members.

The APC claimed that while Ayegbo died at the scene, another victim sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The party described the killing as “callous, wicked, barbaric and inconsiderate,” alleging that it was part of a pattern of politically motivated attacks against its members ahead of the election.

It further alleged that Ijesaland had recorded a high number of political killings since the commencement of the governorship campaign, accusing the state government of failing to condemn attacks on opposition supporters.

The APC called on the Nigeria Police Force to launch a thorough investigation into the incident, identify those responsible and ensure that they are prosecuted.

The party also alleged that the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, was involved in an attack on the APC’s House of Representatives candidate, Francis Eniade, in Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government area.
