Protect INEC’s facilities with tech, expert urges

Following the incessant attacks on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, facilities in the country, a Security Strategist, Mr. David Okoro, has recommended the deployment of technology to protect the commission’s asset from further attack.
The security expert gave the recommendation during a programme on Radio Nigeria, Abuja yesterday.
He said the deployment of technology would fill the gap that human cannot fill in ensuring that the facilities of the commission are continually protected for elections.
Okoro, who noted that alarm through the use of technology would expose a lot of sabotage attempts said there are few basic technology that could be acquired by INEC to protect its facilities.
It would be recalled that the attacks on INEC assets occurred in Enugu and Ebonyi States.
On the several attacks, he also suggested systematic investigation to know the trend and those behind the attacks.
He, therefore, explained that the investigation would provide designed strategy to enhance the security of the commission’s facilities.
While emphatically pointing out the importance of technology as solution, he said INEC asset could not only be protected by human security round the clock in all the days of the year.
“Just like the breaking of oil pipelines across the nation by people then, but with the deployment of technology there is few attempt to sabotage pipeline now,” he said
