Robbery: Court remands Okada rider over robbery

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, ordered the remand of a 31-year-old man, Ajayi Paul, at the Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti over alleged armed robbery.
The accused, a commercial motorcyclist operator was brought to the court on a one count charge of robbery.
The prosecutor, Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes August in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti state.
Ikebuilo said that the defendant boarded a motorcycle, on their way, the complainant, Joshua Efe, a teacher, noticed that the defendant brought out a knife and parked.
She said that, while parking the defendant asked her to hand over her key to him, but refused and in the process, he hit her and zoomed off the motorcycle.
She added that the defendant was later apprehended and was handed over to the police.
According to her, the offence contravened Section 2(1) (a) and (b) of the Robbery and Firearm Act Cap RII Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma, ordered the remand of the defendant at correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice.
Anoma therefore adjourned the case Sept.18 for mention.
