Serial burglar remanded for alleged theft, rape of minor in Akure

A 29-year old man,  Iyanoluwa Olanrewaju, has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre over alleged burglary, stealing, unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor.

The defendant,  appeared before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court on an 11-count charge,

He was accused of carrying out a series of break-ins in different parts of Akure between June and November 2025, allegedly carting away phones, cash and valuables worth several millions of naira.

According to the police prosecutor, Adebayo Sulaiman, Iyanoluwa and others at large conspired to commit felony at St. Francis Street, Gaga Community, Oke-Aro, where he allegedly broke into homes and stole several items.

He was also alleged to have stolen four Android handsets, an HP 15 laptop, an iPad, and four Medium OX fans valued at N1,070,000, property of a prominent judge in Ondo State.

In another incident, he was accused of stealing a Samsung A23 handset, an Itel A50 handset, a box containing jewellery and N1.5 million cash, all valued at N4,980,000, belonging to one Akingbesote Julius.

Olanrewaju was further accused of stealing an iPhone XR and N245,000 belonging to Aduloju Gbemisola on October 30, 2025, and the following day, he allegedly stole a Samsung A15 handset valued at N250,000, property of Adedubuwa Deborah.

The prosecutor also claimed that on June 30, 2025, at Aratunsin Layout, the defendant stole N153,000 and three Android phones valued at N500,000, property of Christanah Bodunde .

The defendant was additionally accused of attempting to unlawfully have carnal knowledge of a 14 year old girl, name withheld.

On October 4, 2025, he was also alleged to have stolen two Android phones and N460,000, with the total value placed at N722,000, belonging to one  Idowu Boluwade.

Another count stated that he stole a Samsung Galaxy J4 and an Infinix Smart 8 phone valued at N375,000, property of Tope Bamidele, in July 2025.

The offences contravene Sections 383, 390(9), 412, and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges, while his counsel, O.O. Oladapo, prayed the court to grant him bail, promising to provide credible sureties.

The magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2,000,000, with two sureties in like sum.

He further directed the registrar to verify the sureties’ addresses.

However, the defendant was unable to meet the bail conditions and was thereafter remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre.

The case was adjourned to December 22, 2025, for hearing.
