A deluge of goodwill and prayerful messages rained in torrent into the Akure country home of the Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti yesterday as he clocked 97 years.

Notable leaders across Nigeria converged at the residence of the nonagarian to celebrate him and his uncommon virtues

In his goodwill message, Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi AKeredolu said Pa Fasoranti is a reference point for quality leadership.

Governor Akeredolu, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde said Pa Fasoranti is a committed and patriotic Nigerian whose passion and dedication to nation-building and national development is undisputable.

According to the Governor, despite his old age, the nonagenarian statesman is still committed to the nation’s democratic development and gains.

“Pa Fasoranti is our pride in Yorubaland. He is a leader and father of our race. We embrace his tenets and steadfastness. His passion for the development and progress of the country is commendable.

“Despite old age, Pa Fasoranti has continued to contribute meaningfully to the progress of our land and the country. He is not just a Yoruba leader; his foresight, commitment, and unwavering faith in humanity are unrivalled.

“Baba’s experience and advice are most desirable. He has navigated, over the years, the political terrain of our country. His wisdom, high moral value, and beliefs are essential guides for desired development,“ the statement reads.

The Governor also rejoiced with Pa Fasonrati for witnessing the return of the nation’s Presidency to the Southwest, praying God to give him good health and peace of mind to partake in the joy of ‘Renewed Hope’ that accompanies the new regime.

The immediate past governor of Ondo State; Dr Olusegun Mimiko said Fasoranti is a leader who leads with example and a man of principle.

“Baba is an extraordinary human being. A leader in Akure community, a leader in the church, and also the leader of Afenifere (a foremost ethno-nationality group in the black race).

“By virtue of these, Baba is a man created as a leader, he has taught us how to lead and he is indeed an example to emulate.

Chief Olu Falae said, “Baba Fasanranti is our role model and a gift to this generation, town and this country. I am about 85 years of age and I have a handful of experience across Nigeria. Till now, I am yet to meet a person who combines all the attributes of a gentle man to the extent that papa combines them.

“Fasoranti is the finest gentleman I have ever known. I have known him from both far and near as a father and political leader and I am yet to find an approximate of him.

“Over the years, I have learnt humility from him. This is the hallmark of truly great person. All Nigerians come here to discuss issues with him and he will allow you to talk without interrupting, his response in just one or two statements settles it all and you will leave him blessed.”

Also speaking, Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa said “Pa Fasanranti is a father figure to me and I am very passionate about him.

“His leadership style is one done by example and everyone is happy following his footsteps.”

Afenifere’s State Chairman, Chief Korede Duyile said “from the cradle, Pa Fasanranti has been a man of respect and honor.

“His contribution in all ramifications is obvious for everyone to see most especially in the education sector and this is notable across western Nigeria. He is a man of integrity and impeccable character.”

A onetime Commissioner for Information in Ondo State and a prominent member of Afenifere; Chief Femi Aluko said “Baba has paid his dues as a nationalist in this country.

“He has served the nation in all ramifications, he is a leader of leaders and one whose life is worthy of emulation.”

Pa Fasoranti appreciated God for making him see another year despite all the challenging experiences of the past.

“Despite the loss of my wife and daughter, I still have reasons to thank God and I also thank all present to celebrate this day with me.”

Early in the day, holy communion service was held as part of activities to mark the celebration.

Delivering his sermon during the service, the officiating minister, Venerable Ope Kujero emphasized the need for the acceptance of the redemptive work of Christ at Calvary.
