As Nigerian President, what would you do?

Every Nigerian has, at some point, imagined how they would solve the nation’s problems. But what if you had the chance to be president? What would you change?
WEEKEND HOPE spoke with Nigerians on the reforms they would make if given the reins of power.
Excerpts:

Esther Adeleke

What I will change in Nigeria first is to reduce the price of petroleum. Secondly, I will reduce the price of food stuff because when the price of food is low. the lower class will be able to buy as much as they like.

Godwin Bernard

I will make sure the chapter 2 of the constitution  which contains the fundamental principle of the Nigeria state becomes enforceable so that Nigerians can enjoy the dividends of democracy and what the government is expected to do for them like free education, free food and free health care.

Ojo Oluwakayode

If I had the opportunity to become the  president of Nigeria, my goal would not be to arbitrarily fix the naira at N500 per dollar, but to build an economy strong enough that the naira will naturally appreciate toward that level.

The value of naira is a reflection of economic strength, not political declarations. Therefore, my approach would focus on three core pillars.

Newman Oladimeji

I will first change the constitution because the constitution is a template that determines the  governance in a society. It’s one thing to have an appropriate constitution and another thing is to make it effective and enforceable.              So, I will put up a structure that will  ensure it is enforced and  I will also make sure that those enforcing it will also be subject to the law if they fail to do due diligence in the process of enforcing it.

Samuel Oseni

If I had the opportunity to become the president of Nigeria, I will rework the economy by reducing the prices of various things from petroleum to food stuff.

Abdulsalam Musa

If I had the opportunity to become the president, I will put more emphasis  on fighting corruption because it’s a war that can be won. I believe if corruption is dealt with in whatever aspect starting from government agency, community, family, more than 70 percent of our problem is solved.

Akin Olutayo

First, I will tackle corruption in every sector because corruption has done  more damage than good in every sector.

Secondly, I will move to the health sector and put up a system where people will be able to pay on credit or  access health services without paying exorbitant money.

Thirdly, I will  make employment a continuous thing by putting up a policy for people to leave service once they are 50 years so that younger ones can be absorbed, thereby reducing unemployment rate amongst the youth in the country .

Gbenga Akinyemi

First, I will reduce the price of food stuff. Before that, I will go to the petroleum sector and reduce the price of petroleum.

Secondly, I will improve security and I will also improve employment rate in the country. Because of unemployment in the country, some youths have gone into illegal things.

Kemisola Gomina

First, I will look into the security area due to several cases of kidnapping.

Secondly, I will subsidise petroleum, and thirdly, I will make sure food stuff is  accessible to the downtrodden  and lastly, I will improve electricity.
