Many single people today are determined to marry only someone who can assist with house chores, often criticising those who are unable or unwilling to help. They believe that marriage is a partnership where both individuals should support each other in all aspects. However, some argue that a lack of interest in house chores should not be enough reason to reject a potentially good partner. Weekend Hope speaks with a few people on the matter.Excerpts:

I cannot marry a man that has the mentality that it is not right for man to engage in house chores.
I am not saying the man should be the one to do the house chores, but he should be able to assist in house chores. You both own the house, and you are the head, so you shouldn’t just sit and watch your wife do it all. A man should assist the wife in his leisure time. A man that cannot do house chores is a no no for me.

Honestly, I don’t think I can marry a man who does not help with household chores. It is not just about the division of labour, it is about respect and partnership. If someone can’t or won’t contribute to maintaining our home, I will feel like I am shouldering all the responsibilities. Teamwork and mutual support are essential in a marriage.

I cannot marry a woman who can not do house chores, but of course, we are helpers as described by the Holy Bible I would always love and support her in doing some and I would be willing and ready to fill the gap anytime she is tired or got stuck outside.
The fact that he “cannot do” is what I can not bear. I can understand and we find ways around making chores fun for ourselves, working together to keep our home organised.

There are various reasons a partner may not be able to help with domestic tasks. I will need to understand why — and if the reason is genuine, then we can sit down and work out a solution together. These days, technology has made life much easier.
There are numerous appliances that reduce the burden of house chores, and it is possible to order almost anything from the comfort of your home. So, if we can afford it, then half the problem is already solved. I believe there is always a way out of every challenge.

My Answer is “No”. I cannot marry a man who cannot engage in house chores. In actuality, chores are shared responsibilities, and a man’s willingness to engage in household chores is just one aspect of a successful marriage. Chores are not gender related. So a man should also engage in household chores to ensure a happy marriage and home.

Personally, I believe marriage should be a partnership, and that includes sharing house chores. I can’t see myself marrying someone who refuses to help out at home, regardless of how busy or traditional he might be.
Teamwork is essential for a healthy relationship, and domestic duties shouldn’t fall on one person alone.

No, I cannot, Its ideal for both partners to share household responsibilities, I don’t think it’s a deal breaker if one person can’t or won’t do chores,Marriage is about loving and accepting each other’s strengths and weaknesses. If my partner excelled in other areas, like providing emotional support or being a great parent, I might be more flexible about household duties.

For me, marriage is for better or worse. As much as I will prefer a spouse who helps with house chores, I will not reject a good suitor simply because he does not. Someone who is not active with housework might be excellent in other areas.
