Court remands ‘fake oil dealer’ over N1.2m fraud

A 51-year-old, Bello Moshood , has been remanded by an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a man of 132,000 litres of petroleum products.
The accused person said to be a fake petroleum supplier allegedly committed the offence in April 2013 at Ile-Ife.
The Chief State Counsel, Mr F. Faremi, told the court that the accused person fraudulently obtained N11,220,000 from Alhaji Popoola Ogundoyin with the pretence to supply him 132,000 litres of dual purpose kerosene (DPK), knowing fully to be false.
The offence committed contravened Sections 1(a),(b), 2 and punishable under section 1(3) of Advance Fee Frauds Act 2006.
The accused person, whose plea was not taken was represented by Mr Ola Ibrahim as his Defence Counsel.
In her ruling, Magistrate Oluwatosin Adediwura, held that her court lacked jurisdiction to try such a case.
She, therefore ordered the remand of the accused person at Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional centre.The case was adjourned till November 19, for mention.
