Court remands man, 28, for kidnap

A 28-year-old man, Emmanuel Maye, has been ordered to be remanded in police custody by an Akure Chief Magistrate Court for alleged attempted kidnapping.
The defendant, an indigene of Delta State and others at large were said to be armed with dangerous weapons when they attempted to kidnap one Helen Olatomide, 56.
According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence in April 2, 2020 at about 10:00am at Ore Odigbo, in the Ondo State Magisterial District.
The alleged offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under section 516(A) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006 and section 6 (a & b) of the Ondo State Anti-kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Laws (Special Provisions) 2010.
The prosecutor, Inspector Uloh Goodluck, informed the court of his intention to move a motion on notice for the remand of the defendant.
Lawyer representing the defendant, Mrs Olubukola Adedire, however said they were not ready for the motion on notice. Hence she prayed the court for an adjournment to enable her file a counter affidavit in response to the motion.
The Magistrate, Mr, N. T Aladejana, adjourned the case till May 25, 2020 and ordered the remand of the defendant in police custody.
