Court remands man over alleged robbery

AChief Magistrates’ Court  sitting  at Oka, in Ondo town, has ordered the remand of a  28 -year-old bricklayer, Dayo Ebenezer, in Shegede prison for alleged armed robbery.

The accused person was brought before the Magistrate, Mrs Odenusi Fadeyi, on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

According to the prosecution, the accused,  who is presently  standing trial in charge No MOD/262c/2018 allegedly committed the offence with others at large on July 9, 2018 at about 9:30pm between No 26 and  38 at Ayesanmi street, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District.

Ebenezer, and others at large were also alleged to have been armed with locally made gun, while they attacked and robbed one Oluwashinami Alewi of  the  sum of N30,000.

The alleged offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under section 6 and 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms(Special Provision) Act Cap. R11 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The plea of the accused was not taken when the charge was read to him.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Gbenga Akinsulure, prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending the advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

In her ruling, Mrs Fadeyi granted the prosecutor’s prayer and remanded the accused person in prison  custody pending the legal advice from the DPP.

She, therefore, adjourned the case to June 13, 2019.
