Daylight robbery: Residents apprehend burglar in Ado-Ekiti

A suspected burglar was apprehended by residents of Iyana Emirin, Zone C, along the Federal Polytechnic Road in Ado-Ekiti, on Sunday, February 2, 2025, after attempting a daylight robbery.
The middle-aged man, who claimed to be from the Oke-Bola area of Ado-Ekiti, was caught in the act along with two accomplices who managed to flee. The gang had allegedly broken into a three-bedroom apartment around 10 a.m., dismantling an air conditioner, a plasma TV, and other valuables.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the gang had previously targeted the same house twice, often posing as bricklayers with a ladder to blend in with the area.
The burglars’ luck ran out when the homeowners unexpectedly returned from a trip. In a frantic bid to escape, the suspect tried to scale the fence but lost his footing, crashing headfirst onto the ground before tumbling into a nearby river.
Angry residents, seeing the opportunity, pounced on him, stripping him naked. However, his life was spared by the timely intervention of officers from the Odo-Ado Police Division, who rushed to the scene and rescued him from the mob.
The police have since launched a manhunt for the two other suspects who managed to escape.
