Organisers of the fifth edition of the Destination Ondo Community
Inter-Street Football Competition have called on intending participants to begin preparations ahead of the registration exercise, which is scheduled to commence on 1 August 2026.
The Chairman of the Ondo West Local Football Council and chief organiser of the competition, Coach Bobola Akinfolarin, made the call in a chat with newsmen.
He reiterated that the registration period remains unchanged and will run from August 1 to 30 2026.
Akinfolarin said the fifth edition of the competition would be an improvement on previous editions and would now be known as the Destination Ondo Inter-Street League, with participating teams playing home-and-away fixtures.
He said: “The competition, which is sponsored by the Chairman of La Campaigne Tropicana Beach Resort, Otunba Wanle Akinboboye, will be upgraded to meet modern football standards.
“We are using this opportunity to remind all intending participants to prepare for a grassroots competition designed to discover and nurture emerging football talents across the Ondo community.”
He noted that the competition has become an annual sporting festival eagerly anticipated by football fans and spectators, who look forward to enjoying quality grassroots football.
“This is the only football competition that combines sports, entertainment and culture in a manner similar to the Olympic Games,” he added.
Akinfolarin further stated that beyond keeping young people meaningfully engaged, the competition would create employment opportunities for individuals outside the playing field and contribute to the local economy of the host communities.
According to him, “Traders selling sachet water, soft drinks and other items are expected to enjoy increased patronage throughout the competition.”
