An Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court has dissolved a five-year-old marriage on ground of the wife’s violence conduct towards her husband.
The presiding Judge of the court, Mr. Adedeji O. Adebisi, dissolved the marriage between Mr. Niyi Iwasanmi and Mrs. Tope Iwasanmi, saying all efforts to reconcile the parties had failed.
Adebisi ruled that the union between the two parties was put to an end in the interest of peace.
The petitioner, Niyi Iwasanmi told the court that the marriage which was contracted five years ago was blessed with a three-year old child.
He described the estranged wife as a violent and irresponsible woman, who did not hesitate in destroying property at every slight provocation.
” My Lord, my wife is largely troublesome and irresponsible. She destroys furniture with knife. She also poured salt into the petrol tank of my motorcycle.
In fact, she threatened to kill me on several occasions,” he lamented.
The respondent, Tope did not contradict the allegations. But she told the court that she does not love the petitioner again, saying she is ready to let go of him, but wants the custody of the only child of the
marriage.
The custody of the child was, however, granted to the respondent, while the court ruled that she should responsible for the 50 percent total sum meant for the educational and social advancement of the child, while the petitioner will pay the remaining 50 percent .
“The petitioner will be paying the sum of N2,000 every month to the respondent through the court for the child’s upkeep,” the court held.
