Ondo state U-17 YSFON team has emerged winner of the 2024 President Unity Cup organized by youth sports Federation of Nigeria ( YSFON) .
The Ondo state talented side defeated their counterpart from Kwara state 4-1 in the final to lift the trophy.
With the win , Ondo state YSFON U-17 team picked a ticket to represent Ondo state and Nigeria in an European youth championship billed for Norway.
Asogbon Adeola scored a goal and registered two assists in the final to finish with Five goals , winning the highest goal scorer award .
Asogbon who spoke with journalists after the game expressed delight in winning the trophy and helping Ondo state team achieve its aim .
” I’m excited to have won the highest goal scorer award and helping my team win the trophy, it was a collective efforts of everyone of us and I’m glad we did it in style “
The ilaje born striker said now is the time to train more and target more laurels .
” We won’t stop from here , I’m happy the management of our club already rolled out programs for us that will keep us in shape ahead of major and forthcoming tournaments, we won’t relent “
Head coach of the Ondo state team , Sunday Taiwo commended his boys for playing to instructions .
” I’m glad we won , and I’m happy my players converted chances early enough , it was a good game “
He thanked the executive members of the Youths sports Federation of Nigeria , Ondo state Chapter for their incredible support .
” To be sincere , YSFON executives in Ondo state are dogged fighters who believe in achieving results , they surprised many people , other states should emulate their zeal in achieving results “
Chairman, Ondo state youth sports Federation of Nigeria , YSFON, Mr Abayomi Ogunlade described the feat achieved as a begining to many more things to come .
He said a United executive of YSFON, determination and God made the tournament a success .
” No one actually believed the state government didn’t support us despite our pleas , but God in his infinite mercy crowned our efforts and we won, not just winning but picking a ticket to represent Ondo state and Nigeria in a youth championship billed for Europe next year”.
On preparations ahead of the European youth championships , Vice chairman YSFON Ondo state, Mrs Tayo Onilude said what God can’t do never exist .
” Same way God did this , he will sure support and stand by us , I’m happy we achieved it “
The trophy won by the state U-17 youth team becomes the second major football trophy won by Ondo state since creation .
The first ever major football trophy was first lifted in 2015 by Sunshine Queens FC.
