Residents of Ondo state have outlined their expectations from the newly elected local council chairmen in the state.
According to them, the local government administration is the closest to the people at the grassroots, hence the need for them to make the welfare of the downtrodden a priority.
According to an Industrialist, Mr Samuel Olaosebikan, their brilliant performance will go a long way in ensuring grassroots development.
He therefore charged the council bosses to remain focus and shun any form of distractions associated with the administration of local governments.
A public servant, Mrs Rita Badejo posited that to achieve a great feat, the Chairmen should ensure all inclusive governance and run open door policies. “They should listen to useful pieces of advice, must not be self centred, but make people of their local government first in decision making.
To A farmer, Mr Ayoola Igbayilola, who said that their impact must be felt through various life-changing programmes, especially in terms of empowerment, added that they should also open up more rural roads for easy access and transportation of farm products to the urban areas.
“They should be determine to make a difference by being proactive in their duties. They should not have a mindset of using the opportunity to make themselves rich, but see it as opportunity to serve the masses”, he stressed.
A Political Analyst, Dr Bayo Boboye noted that the third tier’s commitment to democracy is very germane, hence the need for them to put up and outline what they intend to achieve as a way of positive direction, settle down quickly for action by setting up machineries for effective service delivery
“The new Chairmen and their team should be committed to the promises made during electioneering campaigns. They are expected to provide basic amenities in their council areas for its socio-economic development.
“I believed that with the new democratically elected local government chairmen on board, the third tier of government will be more vibrant and accountable”, he averred.
