The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has arraigned and secured the conviction of Obafemi Olajide for stealing eight iron pipes valued at N25,000 in Akure.
The defendant was brought the defendant before the Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure on a one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecuting counsel, O.F. Baba told the court that the defendant, Obafemi Olajide, on or about August 5, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m., along Igbatoro Road, Akure, within the criminal jurisdiction of the court, stole eight iron pipes valued at N25,000, belonging to one Taiwo Olaleye.
The offence contravenes and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. I, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges
Following his plea,. Baba urged the court to convict the defendant accordingly.
In his testimony before the court, the defendant admitted to the offence.
The court found his testimony to be unambiguous and proceeded to convict him based on his plea and testimony.
Counsel to the defendant, O.S. Adefehinti, pleaded for leniency and urged the court to temper justice with mercy.
Adefehinti told the court that the defendant had shown remorse, was a first-time offender, and that nothing was recovered from him.
In his judgement, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni convicted the defendant and sentenced him to three working days of community service.
The sentence followed the court’s consideration of the defendant’s guilty plea, remorse and status as a first-time offender.
