Tailor remanded over burglary, theft

A 30-year-old tailor,  Amudipe Olaiya, has been remanded by an Akure Magistrates’ Court, for alleged burglary and theft.

Olaiya committed the offence on May 6, 2024 at Promise Land Hill, ljoka Akure, Ondo State.

The  prosecutor,  Inspector A. Jejeniwa, informed the court that the defendant broke into the  house of one ldris Afolabi, and stole one HP Laptop valued at N500,000, 3 shoes valued at N145,000, Palm sandal valued at N60,000, one Samsung phone valued at N150,000 and cash of N50,000.

The defendant and two others at large were said to have burgled the house of one Oluwasegun Alatise, where they stole five kegs of palm oil valued at N125,000, one motor battery valued at N45,000, four hand bags worth N20,000, and bunch of keys valued at N120,000.

The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant burgled the houses of the following persons, Florence Oyewumi, Ajayi Oluwakemi and Oluwaseun Ibiyemi, where they stole some hair products and provisions.

The offence contravenes Sections 516, 383 and punishable under Sections 390(9) and 412 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

But he pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

Jejeniwa said ten witnesses would testify in the case. So, he applied for a date to enable him study the case file.

The presiding Magistrate, C.M. Omole,  granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in like sum.

The defendant could not perfect his bail, hence he was remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre.

The case was adjourned till June 6, 2024 for hearing.
