Teenager sentenced to sweeping for theft

A teenager was on Monday sentenced by the Osun state Magistrate court to clean the court premises as his punishment for stealing.

The 19-year-old Basit was said to have committed the offence on February 3, 2019, at about 10:00am at Omobolanle area, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District.

The police prosecutor, Fagboyinbo Abiodun ASP, told the court that the convict stole one Nokia Asha 501 valued  N10,000 and one Itel 5310 valued N6,000 total valued N16,000 property of one Jimoh Akeem Olaosebikan.

Abiodun told the court, that Basit  was caught where he wanted to change the case of the phone,  in order to change the  face of the phone.

Basit, who is facing a one-count  of stealing, pleaded guilty to the crime.

The convict, admitted that he saw a phone plugged to the socket  and  picked  it.

Counsel to the convict, Mr A. Ugwe prayed the court to temper justice with mercy and be lenient in judgement, noting that the convict was remorseful and that he could be useful to the society.

The Magistrate, Olatundun Oloyade sentenced the convict to clean up the court premises by cutting down the grass in the court as the punishment of the offence committed.
