Trader in court over N3m fraud

A 35-year-old trader, Femi Friday Francis has been arraigned before an Ore Magistrates’ Court over alleged N3, 960,000 fraud.

Friday, was alleged of committing the three-count offence of fraud between December 2021 and February 2022, in Ore, Ondo State.

The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Femi Friday Francis ‘M’, on December, 29, 2021 at about 10am at Sabo Market Area, Ore in the Ore obtained the sum of N2,280,000 from one Mrs Nurat Afolabi, under false pretence to supply her 300 cartons of Power Oil within two weeks, but failed to do so

Between December 29, 2021 and February 7, 2022 at about 10am at same place, he was said to have converted N1,620 million,  property of the complainant.

The offence runs contrary to Sections 418, 383(2) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. I Laws of Ondo State, Nigeria, 2006

The prosecutor, Martins Gbenga, prayed for an adjournment to enable him study the case file

The defence counsel, Mr K.M. Lawani, who held the brief of Mr Victor Akinfe, who was represented by Barr. K. M Lawani did not oppose the prosecutor’s application.

But he prayed the court to grant the defendant bail in most liberal terms

The prosecutor, however, opposed the bail application made by the defence counsel. He said if granted bail, the defendant would still commit the same offence.

Magistrate O. A Omofolarin, in her ruling, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Okitipupa Correctional Centre

She adjourned the case till May 20, 2022.
