Woman,45, docked for assault

A 45-year-old woman, Bukky Akindutire, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court over alleged assault.

The police charged the defendant with three counts bordering on assault, malicious damage and breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simon Wada, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 7, 2023, at about 3 pm at Ajegunle Street, off Arakale, Akure.

Wada said the defendant assaulted one businesswoman, Olubunmi Olowokere, in her shop and destroyed a golden necklace valued at N810,000 and her dress valued at N30,000.

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant conducted herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace in the area.

The offences, according to the charge, contravened Sections 351 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo, 2006.

The prosecutor prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

However, Bukky pleaded not guilty to the offenses leveled against him .The defence counsel, Toun Yinusa, prayed the court for bail of her client in most liberal terms.

Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case till December 8, 2023, for hearing.
