The great storm and the great calm

Kayode Kolawole

And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow; and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we parish?
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” Mark 4 : 35 – 39.
The Bible says in Acts Of The Apostles chapter 10 verse 38, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”
The exploits done by Jesus Christ from coast to coast were not free of hindrances and oppositions. He had an assignment of healing a highly possessed man in Gadarenes but he needed to cross the sea before getting to the demon possessed personality. In the process of crossing, the sea rose against him.
“And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full”.
The assignment Jesus had before him was great. A great storm was needed by the wicked one to truncate the great assignment.
The great man with great assignment ahead of him must compulsorily possess great power to silence great storm prior to the performance of great assignment. So it was in the case of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The greater the assignments that are before us, the greater the opposition in the journey of life.
Our Lord Jesus Christ perfectly rose to the occasion as a man with power over nature and the Bible says ” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
=>The Purposes Of Great Storm In Human Life Are Numerous.
*To slow down all lovers of God from making progress at the time appointed by God.
* To confuse human beings in the time of choice when contradictory or similar opportunities are standing before us.
* To break our hearts in the service of God to the point of thinking that God had abandoned us.
*To divert us from the original pattern and programs of God for our lives. So that we may begin to ask for inferior alternatives which are not the perfect will of God for our lives.
*To discourage human beings who are planning to team up with us as our helpers in the journey of life.
* To destroy the works of many years in few minutes so as to make us loose hope in God as our protector.
*To elevate those who are coming behind us above us if they are not subject to the degree of storms we are exposed to.
*To withdraw the joy of salvation we sincerely cherish as our hope at the end of our journey on earth.
*To make sure that we find it difficult to witness about the goodness of God because the life of a man in the midst of storms may not show the glory of God in the sight of natural and carnal men.
*To drastically and remarkably reduce our speed in the service of God probably to the point of backsliding.
*To force human beings who are not rooted in Christ to seek for solution to earthly and temporary problems from the camp and cage of Satan.
[Who Are The Candidates Of Great Calm From The Storms Of Life?].
*Men/Women who are growing old without any tangible achievement in the journey of life because of battles whose origin they are not able to locate.
*Students who are continually facing difficulties each time they are sitting for progress making examinations.
*Spinsters and bachelors who are always preparing for wedding biannually without getting it right.
*Workers who are being dismissed regularly from their places of work for offences they know little or nothing about.
*Workers who are passing through hatred and rejection they cannot understand just because they are better than their contemporaries on duty.
*Tenants who are rapidly and regularly running into the hands of dubious land sellers each time steps are taken by them to build their personal houses and thereby loosing money instead of making progress.
*Landlords who are constantly renting their houses to troublesome tenants who are in habit of dragging them to court.
*Genuine business men/women who are often forced by events they do not know to the point of investing borrowed capital into projects that are characterized by compulsive destruction.
*Women who are regularly engaged in miscarriages of pregnancy after mysterious dreams that are difficult for human intellect to comprehend.
Beloved, Jesus Christ came across the storm and overcame the storm. He had a mission before the storm arose. He said “Let us pass over unto the other side.” Mark 4 : 35. In Mark 5 : 1, the Bible says “And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes” He got there. He achieved his purpose according to the testimony in Mark 5 : 15. “And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.”
Favoured readers, as it was possible for Jesus Christ to turn a great storm to a great calm and got his mission accomplished, so shall it be for all of us as we are approaching the end of the year in the mighty name of Jesus.
